Chicken Tractors

We have five chicken tractors with a total of eighteen layers in them combined.

A chicken tractor is named so because of its ability to replace a traditional tractor by tilling, weeding, mulching, fertilizing and so on.

The tractors are scattered up and down the arroyo where coyotes hunt rabbits and magpies and scrub jays fly from tree to tree.

This is so far the best environment we have had layer hens in. We plan to get stuff growing in the coop so that when the first snow hits these birds will have a few rotational pastures right there with a good winter shelter as well.

  1. Just got back from a hike to the chicken guy's house to pick up organic non-soy grower feed for the chickens. Weeded and threw in some of their favorites (dandelion leaves - David is an expert at this). Also bought a new bigger waterer so we don't have to refill twice a day. May have a lead on a new home for Bunny the rooster. We need to build our tractor too, thanks for the inspiration.
