Growing Food with Water Catchment

This is a February planting of beets, broccoli and lettuce.

Second cutting is going to be great on this patch.

New expanded beds all set up with irrigation from the cistern... Growing here now are potatoes , chard, lettuces, kales, cabbages,  radishes, beets, broccoli, mustards and soon sunflowers down the middle bed with the chamisa at the end.

The Four Seasons

This super wet snow came five days ago  

It was sunny and warm just an hour before this photo was taken

a full day.

this was all today (the "day off") after we went to the DMV twice, got a new SS card and finally new drivers lincences .. also Becke got a new cell phone for the first time in like five years.

living-room/ green-house is emptying out as we plant more and more seedlings..

tomatoes planted, onions and basil.

greenhouse emptied out.. down to just the wide short table. then we can use the taller eight foot one for vending at market next week.

planning on cutting irises to sell at market also. we have nice white and purple ones. sage and mint are also possible first harvests. radishes are in a slow but close second.

water holding capacity UP!

here is our new water container. went and picked it up this morning. holds 275 gal.

spring has sprung!

both these photos i took with my camera phone, so the quality suffers..but becke took the camera with her to california for the next week, so any work/ progress will be documented by said phone till next wed.

this will include all corn (maize) blue, yellow, purple, strawberry popcorn, pink, small tri-color, etc.
in the winter squash family we will have cushaw, amber cup, acorn, pie pumpkins as well as some native pumpkin

and we are thinking about only growing the Anasazi beans and not pintos..we'll see

pulled up thirty feet of chainlink to make garden bigger...small break in the snow to get something done on the days off

feels really nice to just walk in the gate and be able to walk halfway down the hill to the garlic and shallots. hopefully benefiting from the snowmelt under the straw mulch...soil i dug up today looked rich and black with a good ratio of manure and straw

productive Sunday off

I could have gone into work today and used one less vacation day...but that's no fun. So instead i stayed homeside and worked on a fence for the other part of the garden where the shallots have two rows already ..probably more plants to go there that are less drought tolerant...like corn or maize. the quinoa will most likely go on the other side of the road where the compost is now. Along with possibly some winter squashes and whatnot.
