below is the seed order we just placed with Botanical Interests, it should be all we need, and we are already talking about putting more 1/2" line on the other side of the house for mainly "three sisters" (corn, beans and squash) and of all the seed i planted last week (tues. i think) the pinto beans are already up and we are expecting corn any day. this is a trial to see what germinates and how quickly. but only the stuff we saved, or bought from farmers. we also have ten or so pounds of extra planting garlic that was supposed to be for eating but sprouted and some was moldy, so i transferred it into a mesh-cloth bag in the shed.

all technology on the fritz, but homebrew seems fine
just to explain the title here...the camera now works only when it feels like it, and the vcr is just spitting out any tape you put into it..i'm sure there are other things not working around here, these are just the most recent.

good start to 2009
my bounty from the farmer;s market this morning, plus some delicious oatmeal cookies from Carol
later on I cut quite a bit of fire wood and wheel-barrowed it all to the road and loaded the Chevy

homebrew batch #1 continued
more snow, bigger garden, improvements all around
pulled up thirty feet of chainlink to make garden bigger...small break in the snow to get something done on the days off
feels really nice to just walk in the gate and be able to walk halfway down the hill to the garlic and shallots. hopefully benefiting from the snowmelt under the straw mulch...soil i dug up today looked rich and black with a good ratio of manure and straw

productive Sunday off
I could have gone into work today and used one less vacation day...but that's no fun. So instead i stayed homeside and worked on a fence for the other part of the garden where the shallots have two rows already ..probably more plants to go there that are less drought tolerant...like corn or maize. the quinoa will most likely go on the other side of the road where the compost is now. Along with possibly some winter squashes and whatnot.
new section of garden all mulched with straw and fertilized with alpaca manure
