more chicken pictures!

While the landlady is in NYC for the week, we are looking after the property and the chickens as well. Fed them yesterday and took a bunch of photos. The one for-sure rooster is in a few of these pics. They got a totally unripe watermelon and some basil and burrito leftovers. needless to say they were stoked. Garden is loving the cooler temps and scattered rain-showers today and yesterday. Harvested some peas, beans, jalapenos and squash. Also sunflowers are flowering! pics of those for sure.

fruiting and dogs

harvest basket

day trip to o'keefe country, trip to the market, and a lesson in home-canning

At the farmer's market we got a bunch of cucumbers for four dollars and some of Tom's good good garlic. Also got some fresh dill. We really wanted to prepare to preserve before it's too late. Seeing as we already have watermelons, tomatillos, peppers, now the cucumbers are growing little cukes too. Corn has it's female flowers also now!!!

more rain . more rain!

everything has been loving the almost-daily rain. garden drippers have not been turned on for over two weeks. the roma transplants have began to grow and look really happy. five more future bushes. they are planted slightly above the surrounding ground level, so I may need to add some top soil as well as putting some boards up at the gate to devert rain waters. They have been running small rivers in between the rows of plants for weeks now and most of our good, stinkey top soil is gone... more small projects..plus I bought six more mouse traps, set them all up last night and guess what? I only have two traps left. Quick results....
I always thought we needed a good barn cat to take care of the mice and such. But with mouse traps workin' like this and at 50 cents a pop, and made in the U.S.A. i'm thinkin forget it.
